Contemporary Revelations

by Kaden Washburn

To Be Redeemed

Eighteen miles down the wrong road,

Trying to see something real.

Climbed the wrong beanstalk

In search of the purest drug.

Inside the birdcage

I found nothing but fear.

The saint in my head

Turned braincells to ash.

A revelator came to town.

He showed me something real.

I saw the hawks fall to the ground.

I saw hellhounds ablaze.

I watched the Tabernacle crumble.

I watched the crowns melt.

One life changed in the Milky Way.

The introspective lashings vanished.

Cicadas ceased their buzzing,

A burdensome variation.

My necessary evolution.
